SB 84 could silence any questioning of elections in Missouri.

REPACCMO’s Resolution states the following:
Resolution of The Individuals Signing This Resolution, Representing Missouri Republican Voters.
The individuals listed here, by signing this resolution, are opposing SB 84.
WHEREAS, SB 84 aims to create special protections for election workers, the election authority, election judges, and other volunteers or employees of an election authority and their families, ranging in fines from $2500-$10,000 and/or up to five years in jail.
WHEREAS, SB 84 states that “alarming an election worker is grounds for punishments up to $2500-$10,000 and/or up to five years in jail.”
WHEREAS, SB 84 states that “A person committing the offense of deception against or toward such election official or members of such election official’s family is grounds for punishments up to $2500-$10,000 and/or up to five years in jail.”
WHEREAS, SB 84 states that “A person committing the offense of attempting to induce, influence, or pressure an election official or members of an election official’s family is grounds for punishments up to $2500-$10,000 and/or up to five years in jail.”
WHEREAS, SB 84 states that “A person committing the offense of disseminating, through any means, including by posting on the internet, the personal information of an election official or any member of an election official’s family. For purposes of this section, “personal information” includes marital status, or identity of a child under eighteen years of age is grounds for punishments up to $2500-$10,000 and/or up to five years in jail.”
WHEREAS, Currently, Missouri law protects all it’s citizens and provides for penalties when a person, or persons, is assaulted (RsMO 565.050), harassed (RsMO 565.090), stalked (RsMO 565.225), and/or unlawfully posting information on the internet (RsMO 565.240). Fines range from $2500-$10,000 and/or up to four years in jail.
WHEREAS, parts of SB 84 are an encroachment on our 1st amendment rights as a simple criticism could feel “alarming” to certain individuals. Defining what “alarms someone, deceives someone or attempts to influence someone leaves interpretation up to anyone.
WHEREAS, SB 84 states “personal information includes marital status or a picture of an election worker or election volunteers child on social media” could be interpreted to include innocent pictures taken at any event with these same people.
WHEREAS, in 2023 in Washington DC a bill for “special protections for election workers” was filed by democrat, Amy Klobachar, and co-sponsored by 27 other democrats.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the individuals placing their signatures on this resolution call upon members of the House and Senate to oppose SB 84 specifically and all bills with this same “special protections for election workers” inclusion: SB 182, HB 507, and HB 480.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to members of the Missouri Republican Party, and relevant media outlets to ensure that the voices of Missouri Voters are heard.
